Abstract

To evaluate the efficacy of Imazethapyr WG 70% for weed control in newly seeded alfalfa, a field trial was conducted in Karaj and Uromie during 2024-2025. The herbicide treatments consisted of: Imazamox (Immertar Xtra® WG 70%) at 50 gha⁻¹, Imazethapyr (Pursuit®) at 1 Lha⁻¹, Imazethapyr (Pursuit® SL 10%) at 1 Lha⁻¹, Imazethapyr WG 70%+nonionic surfactant at 120, 140, and 160 gha⁻¹, and a weeding control. The results indicated that Imazethapyr WG 70% at 140 gha⁻¹ effectively suppressed several broad-leaved weeds, including Fumaria vaillantii (80%), Descurainia sophia (80%), and Lactuca serriola (80%). In both study locations, Imazethapyr WG 70% at 140 gha⁻¹ was among the superior treatments for enhancing (at least 30%) alfalfa yield. Furthermore, even at a dosage of 160 g ha⁻¹, no significant phytotoxicity was observed in the alfalfa crop. Consequently, the application of Imazethapyr WG 70% at a rate of 140 gha⁻¹ supplemented with 200 ml of surfactant 2% is recommended for controlling broad-leaved weeds in newly seeded alfalfa.
