[English]

To evaluate the response of different potato cultivars to broomrape (Phelipanche ramosa L.) infestation, a field experiment was conducted in Jiroft, southern Iran, during the 2024 - 2025 growing seasons. The study was conducted in a randomized complete block design with four replications, comparing four commercial potato cultivars: Jelly, Bambo, Sante, and Colomba. Broomrape growth parameters, including fresh weight, dry weight, and shoot density, were recorded at three growth stages. Additionally, potato tuber traits such as firmness, length, width, number, and yield were assessed. Mean comparison results revealed that Jelly was the most susceptible cultivar, exhibiting the highest broomrape fresh weight (647 g m⁻²), dry weight (149 g m⁻²), and shoot density (73 plants m⁻²) at the final growth stage. In contrast, Sante and Colomba significantly suppressed broomrape growth, showing the lowest infestation levels, with broomrape fresh weights of 51 and 59.75 g m⁻², dry weights of 10.23 and 9.9 g m⁻², and shoot densities of 7.75 and 8.25 plants m⁻², respectively. These values represent average reductions of 92%, 93%, and 89% in broomrape fresh weight, dry weight, and shoot density, respectively, compared to the susceptible Jelly cultivar. Evaluation of potato traits indicated that the highest tuber yields were obtained from Sante (54.300 t. ha⁻¹) and Colomba (54.700 t. ha⁻¹), representing a 248% increase compared to Jelly (15.600 t. ha⁻¹). In conclusion, adopting tolerant cultivars such as Sante and Colomba offers an effective, economical, and environmentally sustainable strategy for integrated broomrape management in potato production systems.
